Raffler: the mobile app offering daily cash prizes - is it safe?

Updated on 01 December 2016 | 1 Comment

Mobile app Raffler is essentially a free daily lottery where you can win more than £1,000 in return for a minute of your time. How does it work?

You could win at least £1,000 every day with new mobile app Raffler.

The free lottery offers you the chance to win big in return for watching a couple of adverts that are streamed straight to your phone.

It’s proving to be quite a hit: to date, it has attracted more than 100,000 players and over 2.5 million entries. More than £225,300 has been given away in cash prizes since the app launched in February 2016.

How it works

Enter the daily draw by opening the mobile app which will stream two 30-second adverts to your phone.

Once the adverts have been viewed, you’ll be entered into that day’s draw with an allocated ticket number. At midnight each day a winner is chosen by a random key generator.

You can only enter one draw a day, but you can play for as many days as you want.

Check the app within 24 hours of each draw to find out if you have a winning ticket. If you have, you’ll be taken through the winner’s screen for details on how to claim your prize. In the event that no one claims, the cash is rolled over to the next draw.

The biggest rollover so far has bumped the prize money up to an impressive £4,000.

As you might have guessed, the money for the prize pot is generated by advertising revenue from the mobile adverts.

Who’s behind the idea?

Raffler was created by Trinity College of Dublin graduates Joe Glick and George Hattrell.

Co-founder, Joe Glick, said:

"The response so far has been overwhelming. We hoped for 1,000 downloads in the first month, but we achieved that on the first day and it hasn’t slowed down.

“Our aim is to give as many people as possible the chance to regularly win prizes for free. Over the coming months we'll be doing a major push to grow numbers and introduce a number of initiatives that will give more people the chance to win, and win more often.”

Glick and Hattrell hope to change the draw time to 7pm and offer smaller prizes every day to increase the number of winners.
