COVID-19: bank opening times at Barclays, Lloyds, Nationwide, NatWest & more revealed

For those who need to visit their branch, we reveal which banks are open and when.

Earlier this year, only essential businesses such as supermarkets and banks were allowed to remain open due to COVID-19 restrictions.

After restrictions were eased, some banks have changed their opening hours after reducing them throughout the pandemic.

Before we reveal the opening times for the main banks, remember that you may be able to deal with some banking issues online or in the app. For example, Barclays and HSBC let you pay in a cheque using its app instead of visiting a branch.

It’s worth considering calling your bank or using live chat (if this is available) to ask whether the bank can only deal with your request in branch.

It’s also possible that some bank branches could be temporarily closed due to COVID related absences or other reasons, so it’s a good idea to check the bank’s branch finder.

Barclays

Barclays says that the majority of its branches have returned to permanent opening hours, but opening hours are slightly different compared to before the pandemic.

Most branches are open from 09:30am to 3:30pm or 4:30pm Monday to Friday, and some are open with more limited hours on Saturdays, so it’s a good idea to check the branch finder.

Halifax

Halifax says its branch opening times have increased since lockdown restrictions ended with some banks open on Saturdays.

Opening times can still vary although hundreds of branches are now open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. It’s best to check opening hours before visiting a branch.

HSBC

HSBC says opening hours vary as ‘full-service branches’ are open 9am or 9:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9:30am to 1pm on Saturdays.

‘Digital service branches’ are open 9:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday and 9:30am to 1pm on Saturdays, while ‘cash service branches’ are usually open 9:30am to 3pm, Monday to Friday.

HSBC warns services in branch may be limited depending on which branch you visit, so it’s a good idea to check the branch finder for opening hours and available services.

Nationwide

Most Nationwide branches are open between 9am and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, and many are open on Saturdays between 9am to midday or 9:30am-1pm.

As opening times can vary, it’s recommended that you use the branch finder before heading out.

NatWest/Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS)

NatWest says its branches are operating at ‘usual hours’ which are usually 9:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Some branches are open on Saturdays, but there is no counter service.

It’s best to use the branch finder as opening times can still vary. There are also other ways you can sort your everyday banking needs.

RBS is following the same opening hours and issuing the same advice as NatWest. You can see if your local RBS branch is open with the branch finder.
