Lidl launches ‘Smarter Shopping’ card

Lidl has launched its 'Smarter Shopping' card to give shoppers instant rewards.

Lidl has launched a ‘Smarter Shopping’ card in Scotland.

Shoppers can take advantage of a range of promotions over a 10-week period, with a new deal every week.

The first offer was introduced on 20th August, allowing shoppers to save £5 when they spend £25.

To keep shoppers updated, the following week’s offer will be highlighted online and in-store over the course of the promotion.

[SPOTLIGHT]Lidl stressed that this is not a loyalty card as it’s running for a limited time and there’s no data collection on shoppers. You just redeem your instant reward at the checkout, with no limit on how many times you can use the card.

Five million cards have already been distributed by direct mail, newspaper and through Lidl’s 90 Scottish stores.

Strong presence in Scotland

Lidl said that thanks to its strong presence in Scotland it was able to test the strength of these kinds of promotions. The feedback so far has been ‘phenomenal’, said Lidl spokesperson Laura Hamlin.

However, she said there aren’t any plans to extend the scheme outside Scotland or beyond the 10-week trial.

What do you think? Would you like to see Lidl offer a similar scheme in the rest of the UK? Would it make you more likely to use the store?
