Giffgaff launches 4G SIM-only deals

Updated on 19 November 2014 | 2 Comments

4G goodybags now available from £12.

Giffgaff is the latest provider to launch a 4G service for SIM-only customers.

The low-cost network, which piggybacks off O2's network, has been trialling its superfast service since March with selected customers.

Following their feedback it’s now launched a range of 4G goodybags open to all. These start from £12 a month and last 30 days.

Customers that have been with giffgaff since before 29th October 2014 will be upgraded to 4G at no extra cost. However, this entitlement is not guaranteed from 13th January 2015.

To benefit from the superfast speeds you will need a 4G-ready handset.

Giffgaff offers 4G handset contracts (lasting between six and 24 months) on a variety of phones including the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which can be combined with the 30-day 4G goodybags.

You’ll also need to be in an area set up for 4G. You can use this online coverage checker to see if giffgaff provides 4G in your area.

How giffgaff compares

EE, Three, O2 and Tesco Mobile are the only other providers to offer 30-day 4G SIM-only plans. (Vodafone also offers 4G SIM-only deals, but only on 12-month contracts.)

Right now Tesco Mobile offers the cheapest 30-day 4G SIM-only deal at just £10 a month. But giffgaff offers double the amount of data and unlimited texts for just £2 a month more.

However, Three offers the best value overall with the biggest allowance across minutes, texts and data, for £13 a month.

EE is the most conservative with data with only 250MB available on its cheapest £12.99 deal, while O2 is the most expensive at £15 a month for near enough the same deal as Tesco Mobile.
