Black Friday – a day retailers offer mega deals and discounts – is finally here.

The American tradition that’s become popular in the UK is normally held on the day after Thanksgiving to kick off the Christmas spending season.

The name Black Friday is thought to describe the huge traffic jams and mayhem following Thanksgiving but it’s also come to mean the day of the year that puts struggling retailers ‘back in the black’.

In 2010, Amazon introduced Black Friday to the UK and Asda followed suit in 2013, when the phenomenon really took off and other retailers started to get in on the act. It’s become the biggest shopping day in Britain with £2 billion spent, in shops and online, in just 24 hours last year.

The best Black Friday deals

More and more UK retailers are getting into the Black Friday discounting frenzy and this year is expected to be the biggest yet.

Below is a round-up of the best deals by retailer, listed alphabetically.

Amazon

Apple

Apple has joined the Black Friday mayhem. You can get an Apple Gift Card worth up to £120 with the purchase of selected products. Here’s what you can get:

• The iPhone SE (£379), iPhone 6s (£499) or iPhone 6sPlus (£599) gets you an Apple Gift Card worth up to £40
• The iPad Pro (£549), iPad Air 2 (£379) or  iPad mini 4 (£379) gets you an Apple Gift Card worth up to £80

Currys

Currys has a range of great offers and is offering free next day delivery.

Today you can get £100 off Apple Mac notebooks with code MAC100A and £30 off iPads with code IPAD30. There's also £100 off all TVs over £1,000 with disocunt code 100TV.

The retailer is offering a price guarantee. Currys says if you find Argos, Asda, John Lewis or ao.com has the same item at a cheaper price, it’ll match it, even if their price includes a voucher offer, and even up to seven days after you’ve made your purchase from Currys.

Gap

There's 40% off full-price styles online with code FRIDAYGAP.

House of Fraser

House of Fraser has launched its Black Friday sale with up to 20% off coffee machines, electricals, jewellery, watches, shoes, boots and beauty.

You’ll also find up to 30% off women’s coats, women’s dresses and kids’ clothing.

For the big savings there’s up to 50% off handbags, toys, home, furniture, luggage and up to 70% off bedding.

HTC

HTC is offering up to £80 off the HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle and HTC One M9 handsets. There's over £100 off the HTC One A9.

There's also 50% off HTC RE action cameras, 30% off all cases including the Ice View for HTC 10 and 30% off JBL Reflect Aware C Earphones.

John Lewis

John Lewis is running Black Friday deals from today until Monday November 28 on electricals, kitchen, dining, toys and beauty.

John Lewis has a commitment to being 'never knowingly undersold', which means it matches competitors’ prices.

With many of its rivals launching deals this price promise has been triggered already. The iPad Pro 32GB Wi-Fi for example has £30 off and is available for £349.

So make sure you double check if you can pay less at John Lewis before making a purchase.
