Prices for the most popular groceries have risen in June, the first price rise in over six months, suggesting the supermarket price wars may be at an end.
That’s according to the latest MySupermarket Groceries Tracker, which found that the average basket of goods came to £86.84 in June, up from £86.60 in May. The tracker monitors the cost of the 35 most commonly bought grocery products, which includes minced beef, ham, white bread, apples, baked beans and pasta.
However, the basket is still significantly cheaper than 12 months ago – in June last year it would have cost a whopping £91.88.
The biggest price rises

As you can see onions had far and away the biggest price rise over the month, jumping by almost 11%, more than double the next biggest rise seen on bananas (5%).
Carrots also saw a significant price rise in June, jumping by more than 4% to £1.58 on average.

[SPOTLIGHT]Broccoli saw a significant price fall in June, dropping by more than 17% as the average cost fell from 97p to 80p. Pasta also fell significantly in percentage terms, though in real terms the 2p change won’t have been particularly noticeable for many shoppers.

MySupermarket’s Groceries Tracker monitors the prices of nearly 5,000 products across Asda, Aldi, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose. It looks at both brand and own brand, but does not include finest/luxury ranges. All prices include offers, but not multibuy deals.
