American Express offers airport cashback

Updated on 18 November 2014 | 0 Comments

Amex has teamed up with Foursquare to offer money back on your shopping at selected airports.

American Express has launched a range of promotions aimed at cardholders flying from some of the UK’s biggest airports.

If you’re flying from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester or Edinburgh between now and 31st January you can earn money back at a host of airport retailers via your Amex card.

How it works

All you need to do to take advantage is to connect your Amex card to an account on social network Foursquare via the American Express website. You can do this on your smartphone or online.

Then open the Foursquare app or site and search #AmexOffers to locate Amex specials at nearby terminals. Once you’ve found one, click ‘Add to Card’.

Next just use your connected Amex card to pay.

The following cashback offers are available.

You can only take advantage of one offer at each retailer once.

Write a review and earn £5

[SPOTLIGHT]In addition, Amex is also running an offer right now with reviews site TripAdvisor. If you connect your American Express card to a TripAccount account and write a review before 31st December, you can earn a statement credit of £5.

You can also earn £50 back when you connect your card to your TripAdvisor and spend £150 or more on hotels, flights, car hire or experiences via American Express Travel.

Don't have an Amex card?

If you don't have an American Express card there are some good introductory offers on its cards right now.

The Platinum Cashback Everyday credit card offers 5% cashback on up to £2,000 of purchases for the first three months you have the card. You can then earn up to 1.25% cashback, depending on how much you spend.

If you’re a heavier spender, the Platinum Cashback card offers 5% cashback on up to £2,500 of spending in the first three months. You can then earn up to 2.5% cashback, depending on how much you spend.

However, this card has an annual fee of £25.

Meanwhile, the Preferred Rewards Gold charge card offers 20,000 Membership Rewards points if you spend £2,000 in the first three months. This is enough for a £100 gift card from the likes of M&S and Boots, or a free European return flight where you just pay the taxes and charges.

This card is a charge card, so you have to pay off the balance in full each month, although you should do this regardless of the card you’re using otherwise interest will wipe out your cashback. And its £125 annual fee is waived for the first year, but will be charged in the second, so be aware of that too.
