Free bus travel in January for unemployed people

The Government is enhancing a travel scheme in a bid to help people find work.

A travelcard offered to the unemployed is to be improved to offer cardholders free bus travel throughout January.

The JobCentre Plus Travel Discount Card already offers half-price journeys, but is being revamped to help people trying to find a job.

The card is available to those who have been without a job for between three months and a year, and who are claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance or Income Support.

Around 800,000 people are currently eligible.

The card will cover over 70% of bus routes in England, Scotland and Wales, with all the networks below signing up to take part:
