Brilliant bargain tablets from £50 that are almost as good as an iPad

We have picked out some cracking tablets that offer amazing features but won't break the bank.

Want a cheap tablet computer? As Amazon launches its latest Fire tablet, costing less than £50, we wanted to take a look at the other fantastic tablets on the market which you can get for a bargain price.

Cheap tablet computers

While they started out as rather costly devices, many tablets are now available for between £100 and £200, and some have even slipped below the £100 price point.

With Wi-Fi connectivity and enough storage for up to hundreds of TV shows, music and books, they’re a great way to keep yourself entertained during your daily commute or keep in touch with family, friends and up to date with work on the go.

Here are half a dozen tablets that are available for £100 or less, along with their review scores from TechRadar. All of these devices have 1GB RAM.

Amazon Fire

The new Amazon Fire launches on 30th September, and comes with a seven inch screen, 16GB of storage (which you can bump up with a microSD card) and battery life of up to seven hours.

It’s powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and boasts rear- and front-facing cameras.

As the tablet isn’t out yet, it hasn’t been reviewed by the tech experts just yet, but given the good reviews other Amazon tablets have received up to now, it seems a solid bet.

One important thing to remember is that although you can install thousands of apps via the Amazon app store, you can’t put any of Google’s apps onto any Amazon tablet. Not even Chrome. If that’s a dealbreaker, you should consider looking at alternative tablets that don’t run Fire OS.

Amazon Fire HD6

The Amazon Fire HD6 is a little more powerful, with a 1.5 Ghz quad-core processor and comes with an even better HD picture quality.

It comes in 8GB or 16GB models, and also boasts rear- and front-facing cameras.

The experts at TechRadar gave it 4/5, praising its compact size and sharp screen.

Asus MeMOPad 7

The MeMO Pad 7 from Asus boasts excellent battery life of up to eight hours, and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor.

You get up to 8GB of storage (which you can boost with a microSD card) and front- and rear-facing cameras.

TechRadar gave it 4/5, describing it as a solid tablet, with particular praise for its power and design.

Linx 7

The Linx 7 tablet comes with a pre-installed Office 365 12-month subscription, so it’s useful for work as well as fun.

Again it has two cameras, but the storage is massive at 32GB. It’s powered by a 1.33GHz processor, but its typical battery life is just 4-6 hours.

TechRadar described it as excellent value for money, and gave it a score of 4.5/5.

Linx 810

The Linx 810 is another new tablet which hasn’t been reviewed just yet, but we do know that it has a powerful 1.83GHz quad-core processor and 32GB of storage.

The battery life is a bit better at 5-7 hours, too, and it also has two cameras.
