How do you check old Premium Bond numbers from years ago? We explain how to track them down if you've forgotten them and how to check if you've won a prize with your old Premium Bond numbers.

How do you check old Premium Bond numbers that you bought many years ago?

One of our readers has Premium Bonds dating back 45 years and got in touch to ask how to check these old numbers. “I bought them and forgot about them as am now living abroad,” they told us.

Finding your Premium Bonds

Fortunately, this is a common issue and easily solved, thanks to the many options available on the National Savings and Investments (NS&I) website.

Even if you’ve lost your Premium Bond numbers or documents, NS&I can help track them down.

Premium Bonds are grouped under a single holder’s number. It has 10 or 9 digits, or 8 digits followed by a letter.

You can find your holder’s number by logging in to the NS&I online service and checking your account page.

Alternatively, if you don’t have an online account or are unable to activate one, you can call the NS&I on 08085 007 007 for a replacement Bond record and they will send one out to you.

You can also write to the NS&I for one if you prefer.

The Bond record will show all the Bonds you hold and your holder's number.

If you think you have Premium Bonds but aren’t sure, the NS&I’s Tracing Service can help you find out. The Tracing Service brochure and forms to track down lost savings are available online.

Are my old Premium Bonds still valid?

As long as your Bonds haven’t been cashed in, they’re still valid and still entered into the monthly prize draws.

If you find some old ones, you can write to the NS&I to get them added to your online account.

How do I find my Premium Bond numbers?

If you have an NS&I online account, you can log in to view and print off a list of all your Bond numbers.

Alternatively, you can contact NS&I and they will post a Bond record out to you.

How do I check if I've won anything with my old Premium Bond numbers

To check if you have won a prize, you can enter your holder number into the NS&I prize checker tool on the website or download the app onto your phone.

You can also download lists of winning bond numbers for the last six months or check for unclaimed prizes dating back to June 1957 on the NS&I website.

You can call NS&I on 08085 007 007 (or +44 1253 832007 from outside the UK) for help or write to them at the address here: NS&I, Sunderland, SR43 2SB.
