Sainsbury's, Asda and Tesco will be reducing the cost of fuel at their petrol stations on Tuesday.

Sainsbury’s has announced that it is cutting up to 5p a litre off the price of petrol and diesel, sparking another round of supermarket fuel cuts.

The new prices will take effect from tomorrow (Tuesday) at all its 294 petrol stations.

Asda will cut prices at its petrol stations by up to 1p per litre for unleaded petrol and up to 2p per litre for diesel, also from Tuesday. This means its fuel will cost no more than 124.7p per litre for unleaded and 128.7p per litre for diesel.

Meanwhile, Tesco will also cut up to 5p off per litre at all of its petrol stations. This is in addition to any savings made through the Fuel Save scheme.

RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “The wholesale price of both petrol and diesel has been low for around three months and as a result motorists have been enjoying some of the cheapest prices for over three years, but this cut will take us to a new low, the likes of which we haven’t seen since late 2010 and early 2011."
