It may be a surprise, but nature has reclaimed much of this highly radioactive place. Trees grow unhindered, poking through the communist concrete, flowers bloom in the spring, and a team of horses thrives after a few were released into the area to see if animals could survive. The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone is safe to visit for tourists, but can be explored on guided tours only.
