Imperial Pelican Egg

This beauty was presented by Tsar Nicholas II to his mother, the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna, at Easter 1898. The Pelican Egg is made from engraved red gold and mounted with an enamel pelican.

The surprise is a selection of eight watercolour miniatures depicting charities patronised by the Dowager Empress.
