Bill Gates and his ex-wife Melinda French Gates, pictured with eldest daughter Jennifer, formed their eponymous foundation in 1994, then in 2010 created The Giving Pledge with Warren Buffett.

The billionaire Microsoft magnate, who's currently worth $102 billion (£75.8bn), doesn’t think it would be "good either for my kids or society" to leave too much to his three children. Instead, Gates reportedly said in 2017 they’ll receive $10 million (£7.9m) each.

To date, the Gates Foundation has donated more than $100 billion (£74bn) to causes.

Melinda French Gates, one of the most powerful women in philanthropy, is currently worth $29.9 billion (£22.2bn).
