Video games with blockbuster budgets

Gamers worldwide went into a frenzy when the trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI was recently released. However, in less welcome news, developer Rockstar announced that the game, originally due to debut this year, has been delayed until May 2026.

Reports suggest Rockstar has spent around $2 billion (£1.5bn) on developing and branding so far, and surpassing Hollywood blockbuster movie budgets is becoming increasingly common in the video game industry.
