Having earned over $10 billion (£7.4bn) at the box office, the Star Wars film franchise is the second-highest grossing in the world, defeated only by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The enduring popularity of the space opera franchise was recently showcased by a 20th anniversary re-release of Revenge of the Sith. A surprise box office hit, it grossed $55.1 million (£40.6m). But what spot does the movie occupy overall when it comes to Star Wars box office hits and misses?
