With their thunderous riffs, high-octane performances and stadium-filling sound, AC/DC are one of the biggest hard rock bands in music history.
Formed in Sydney in 1973 by Scottish-born brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, the group broke through internationally with Highway to Hell before reaching even greater heights with 1980's Back in Black. Despite deaths, retirements and numerous line-up changes, AC/DC have endured for more than five decades and sold over 200 million records worldwide.

AC/DC have crossed paths with some seriously wealthy rock royalty. AC/DC supported the Rolling Stones at four shows in 2003, with Angus and Malcolm Young joining them onstage for Rock Me Baby. The Stones' living members are worth more than $1.4 billion (£1bn), according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Another heavyweight to share the stage with AC/DC was Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose, whose fortune is now pegged at $200 million (£147.9m). Rose stepped in for Brian Johnson on the band's Rock or Bust tour in 2016.
Welsh-born Dave Evans was AC/DC's original lead singer and spent around 10 months with the fledgling band in 1973 and 1974. During his brief tenure, he recorded AC/DC's debut single Can I Sit Next to You, Girl, backed with Rocking in the Parlour.
After leaving, Evans joined Australian hard rock band Rabbit, later fronted Thunder Down Under and pursued a solo career. In 2016, he said he would be keen to rejoin AC/DC after Brian Johnson stopped touring, but Axl Rose ultimately stepped in instead. Despite his decades in music, there are no credible estimates of his personal fortune.
Lifelong Sydneysider Colin Burgess was recruited in November 1973 as AC/DC's first drummer. His initial stint lasted just three months. He was fired in February 1974 after being accused of appearing drunk onstage, although Burgess later claimed his drink had been spiked. He briefly filled in again in 1975.
Before AC/DC, Burgess had played with the Masters Apprentices, who were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1998. He later toured with the Dead Singer Band, paying tribute to late Australian vocalists. Burgess died in 2023, aged 77.
Hailing from San Francisco, Larry Van Kriedt moved to Sydney with his family in 1969 and became AC/DC's original bassist when the band formed in 1973. A multi-instrumentalist who also played saxophone, he came from a musical family and studied jazz, composition and arranging with his father, musician Dave Van Kriedt.
Post-AC/DC, he played with Australian bands including the Eighty Eights, Non Stop Dancers and Def FX, later forming the Moroccan-Australian group Afram. Now based in Yorkshire, England, he runs Jazzbacks, which produces backing tracks for musicians.
Raised in Melbourne, Mark Evans joined AC/DC on bass in 1975, playing on T.N.T., High Voltage, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Let There Be Rock and '74 Jailbreak. Despite sharing a surname with original singer Dave Evans, the two aren't related.
Mark was fired in 1977 and later played with several bands. In 2011, he published the autobiography Dirty Deeds: My Life Inside/Outside of AC/DC, and went on to join Angry Anderson's Rose Tattoo in 2017, remaining with the group into 2024.
After AC/DC's original 1973 line-up began to break up, the band cycled through several musicians before settling into a more familiar configuration. Bassists Rob Bailey (pictured), Neil Smith and Paul Matters, along with drummers Noel Taylor, Peter Clack, Ron Carpenter and Russell Coleman, all had short stints during 1974 and 1975.
Some appeared at live shows or on early recordings, but none became long-term members. No reliable estimates of their personal fortunes are available.
Angus and Malcolm Young's nephew Stevie Young first filled in for AC/DC in 1988, temporarily replacing Malcolm while he took time out to address his alcohol dependency. Before that, the Glasgow-born musician had played in several bands, including Starfighters, who supported AC/DC on their Back in Black UK tour and later opened for Ozzy Osbourne.
When Malcolm retired due to dementia in 2014, Stevie officially replaced him as AC/DC's rhythm guitarist and debuted on Rock or Bust. Despite being Angus' nephew, Stevie is only a year younger than him.
Chris Slade had already built an impressive music CV before joining AC/DC in 1989, drumming for Tom Jones, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Uriah Heep, David Gilmour and Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers' supergroup the Firm.
With AC/DC, the Welsh drummer played on 1990's The Razors Edge, including Thunderstruck, before departing in 1994 when Phil Rudd returned. Slade later spent six years with Asia and formed the Chris Slade Timeline. In 2015, he rejoined AC/DC for the Rock or Bust world tour, remaining until Rudd returned in 2020.
Bassist Chris Chaney and drummer Matt Laug currently tour with AC/DC alongside Angus Young, Brian Johnson and Stevie Young.
Chaney joined in 2024, replacing Cliff Williams on the road after previously playing with Jane's Addiction and Alanis Morissette, as well as artists including Cher, Joe Cocker and Slash.
Laug made his AC/DC debut in 2023, taking over from Phil Rudd. A prolific session drummer, his credits include Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill, Slash's Snakepit, not to mention his work with Alice Cooper and Christina Aguilera.

Simon Wright joined AC/DC in 1983, replacing Phil Rudd on drums, and went on to play on Fly on the Wall, Who Made Who and Blow Up Your Video. He left in 1989 after six years with the band, later explaining that he wanted more creative freedom than AC/DC's regimented style allowed.
Wright subsequently joined Dio, recording 1990's Lock Up the Wolves before returning to the group years later for several more albums.
Bon Scott became AC/DC's lead singer in 1974 and helped define the band's swaggering early sound across albums including High Voltage, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Let There Be Rock and Highway to Hell. His distinctive voice and stage presence later earned him the top spot on Classic Rock magazine's 2004 list of the 100 Greatest Frontmen of All Time.
Tragically, Scott died in London in 1980 aged just 33 from alcohol poisoning, shortly before AC/DC recorded Back in Black with Brian Johnson. Celebrity Net Worth estimates that his wealth at the time of his passing was equivalent to $10 million (£7.4m) today.
Melbourne native Phil Rudd joined AC/DC in 1975 and became the steady backbone of their signature sound, playing on classics from T.N.T. through Flick of the Switch. After leaving in 1983, he returned in 1994 and went on to play on albums including Ballbreaker and Black Ice.
Rudd was notably the only Australian-born member of the Power Up album line-up, though Matt Laug is handling drums on the ongoing Power Up tour.
Brian Johnson was already fronting Geordie when AC/DC invited him to audition following Bon Scott's death in 1980. His first album with the band, Back in Black, became one of the bestselling albums of all time.
Johnson stopped touring in 2016 after doctors warned he risked total hearing loss, hence why Axl Rose temporarily replaced him, but he returned for 2020's Power Up and remains AC/DC's frontman.
Although Angus Young was AC/DC's flamboyant public face, his brother Malcolm was widely regarded as the band's driving force, with his tight rhythm guitar and formidable riffs underpinning its sound. He also played a major role in steering the group behind the scenes.
After decades at the heart of AC/DC, Malcolm was forced to retire in 2014 after developing early-onset dementia, a particularly cruel end to such an extraordinary musical career. A famously low-key presence in a famously loud band, Cliff Williams joined AC/DC in 1977 after replacing Mark Evans and made his recording debut on Powerage. His unfussy, tightly locked bass style became a crucial part of the group's sound for nearly four decades.
