Sex and the City first burst onto TV screens in 1998 and entertained audiences with the loves, lives, and friendships of four women in New York City for an epic eight years.
Recently, there's been spin-off series And Just Like That..., a much-anticipated reboot featuring three of the original cast members. And now final original star Kim Cattrall has been confirmed to make a brief appearance in the second season.
But which member of the original Sex and the City cast is the richest today? Read on to find out. All dollar values in US dollars.
The original Sex and the City series shot Kristin Davis, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kim Cattrall to stardom. Since then, they've gone on to make movies, start businesses, and even run for governor of New York.
As Sex and the City grew in popularity, so did the stars’ salaries. Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall, and Cynthia Nixon, who played Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda respectively, are all believed to have earned a generous $350,000 (£216.6k) per episode at the show’s peak.
Sarah Jessica Parker, who played lead character Carrie, bumped her salary up to a massive $1.5 million (£930k) per episode from season three onwards thanks to her additional role as an executive producer.
Following the huge success of the TV show, the famous four starred on the silver screen in 2008's Sex and the City. The rom-com movie grossed an impressive $419 million (£208.7m) worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
The stars didn’t fare too badly either, with Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis reportedly earning $6 million each (£3m), Kim Cattrall making $10 million (£5m), and Sarah Jessica Parker earning a massive $15 million (£7.4m).
A sequel, Sex and the City 2, was released in 2010, though it only grossed $290.7 million (£179.2m), according to Box Office Mojo.
It’s unclear how much Nixon and Davis were paid for the sequel, but Cattrall allegedly earned $10 million (£6.2m), while Sarah Jessica Parker supposedly received double that, which sparked rumours of tension between the co-stars.
A third Sex and the City film was in the pipeline for 2017, but it was reportedly canned at the last minute following alleged "demands" from Kim Cattrall, who didn't feature in the new TV reboot either.
So, following six incredibly popular seasons, two Hollywood hits, and a new series, which of the Sex and the City stars is the richest today?
While securing the role of Miranda Hobbes undoubtedly catapulted Cynthia Nixon to new heights of fame, she was already an established actress long before starring in Sex and the City.
Her early roles included TV shows such as Gideon Oliver (1989) and Law & Order (1990), and in more recent times she's starred in hit shows like Ratched (2020) and The Gilded Age (2022).
Nixon’s interests extend beyond Hollywood, and she became a vocal defender of public education in the early 2000s. She also campaigned for same-sex marriage in 2015 and has been a strong advocate for women’s rights over the past two decades.
In 2018, Nixon ran to become the first female, openly gay New York governor and took on incumbent Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic nomination. Nixon was unsuccessful, though her $2.6 million (£1.9m) campaign spending paled in comparison to Cuomo’s $26 million (£19.3m) re-election efforts.
Nixon’s run for governor also put the spotlight on her finances, as she was pressured to release her tax returns. They showed the actor-turned-politician had taken home more than $2.1 million (£1.6m) between 2013 and 2018 for her screen and stage work, while the company she founded to handle her finances, The Fickle Mermaid Corporation, grossed more than $5 million (£3.7m) in total across the same period.
The money not taken as salary went towards expenses, including "professional development" such as acting and singing coaching, and "professional expenses" such as employing hair and make-up artists.
Nixon featured Miranda-themed merchandise in her gubernatorial campaign, including T-shirts and tote bags that read: "I’m a Miranda and I’m voting for Cynthia."
As previously mentioned, she reprised her role as Miranda for And Just Like That..., reportedly taking home $1 million (£807.7k) per episode.
Sources suggest that Cynthia Nixon’s net worth is currently around $25 million (£18.9m).
The Sex and the City movies certainly weren't Kristin Davis' only cinematic appearances. The well-established screen starlet has acted in films such as Deck the Halls, Couples Retreat, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and Deadly Illusions.
Davis has also graced the stage: she made her Broadway debut in 2012 in a production of The Best Man and appeared in the 2014 London production of Fatal Attraction.
The actress transitioned to hosting when she presented the dating game show Labor of Love in 2020.
The controversial show was axed after one season, however, as the concept of Bachelor contestant Kristy Katzmann testing a group of men on their parenting skills to find one she could have a baby with received backlash.
While it's unknown exactly how much Davis was paid for her role on this particular show, she can certainly rely on the generous $1 million (£807.7k) per episode she’s reportedly received for And Just Like That...
Davis has further boosted her fortune by endorsing various brands and businesses over the years. This includes working as a celebrity spokesperson for cosmetics giant Maybelline New York and promoting British Airways' 2014 launch of an A380 service between London and Singapore (pictured).
She was also appointed global ambassador of haircare range Volaire in 2017.
Away from the glitz and glamour of show business, Kristin Davis is one of the most philanthropic members of the Sex and the City gang, as she's spent many years working as a global ambassador for Oxfam.
The actor has also supported the United Nations Refugee Agency since 2014 and was announced as one of the organisation’s Goodwill Ambassadors in 2017.
Her net worth is currently estimated at $35 million (£28.3m).
Of the Sex and the City foursome Kim Cattrall was the veteran actor, having made her silver screen debut in 1975 as Joyce Donnovan (pictured far left) in the adventure movie Rosebud.
She then racked up more than 60 film and TV credits, including Police Academy and Mannequin, before taking on the character of Samantha Jones.
Kim Cattrall's dissatisfaction with her salary was reportedly a key factor in why Sex and the City ended in 2004.
Speaking on the British TV chat show Friday Night with Jonathan Ross that same year, the actor said: "I felt, after six years, it was time for all of us to participate in the financial windfall of Sex and the City. When they didn't seem keen on that, I thought it was time to move on."
Cattrall’s character Samantha was absent from And Just Like That..., but the actress has been busy with other roles...
When Sex and the City series ended, Cattrall went on to feature in the movie Ice Princess, as well as appearing in a string of TV shows such as Modus, Tell Me a Story, and Queer as Folk.
She's currently starring in the Hulu series How I Met Your Father, which is a spin-off of the wildly popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother.
Having portrayed the liberated Samantha Jones in Sex in the City, Cattrall went on to release a series of books and an HBO documentary called Sexual Intelligence that explored female pleasure. It's just been confirmed she will make a fleeting cameo in the next season of And Just Like That... although she won't share the screen with any of her original co-stars.
Her net worth is estimated to be around $40 million (£32.3m), though some sources suggest it's closer to $75 million (£60.6m).
Unsurprisingly, Sarah Jessica Parker takes the crown as the wealthiest Sex and the City star.
Since shooting to fame as Carrie Bradshaw, Parker has forged a hugely successful Hollywood career and boosted her bank balance with other money-making ventures too...
Outside of Sex and the City, Parker is probably best known for playing Sarah Sanderson in the 1993 Halloween flick Hocus Pocus. Last year, she reprised the role of Sarah in the long-awaited sequel to the beloved cult classic.
As we've mentioned, Parker also reprised her role as Carrie Bradshaw in And Just Like That...
Unlike previous incarnations of Sex and the City, Parker reportedly earned the same amount as her co-stars – a very reasonable $1 million (£807.7k) per episode.
Parker founded her very own production company, Pretty Matches, in 2009 after getting a taste for producing during her Sex and the City days.
The company was behind Divorce, a three-season show starring Parker, for which she reportedly earned $275,000 (£214.8k) per episode.
Pretty Matches also produced the TV series Here and Now, though it was axed after just one season in 2018.
A love of designer footwear is something that Sarah Jessica Parker and her on-screen persona Carrie Bradshaw have in common – so much so, in fact, that Parker opened her first of two shoe stores in New York in 2018. This came after Parker had already launched her own shoe brand, SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker, in 2014 with the late Manolo Blahnik designer George Malkemus.
The business-savvy starlet is heavily involved with her stores and is regularly spotted assisting customers at her outlets. It’s not known how much money Parker makes from her shoe venture, but her designs certainly don’t come cheap.
All in all, Sarah Jessica Parker is reportedly worth a stunning $200 million (£161.6m).
