Getting started guide
Once you've registered with lovemoney.com you're ready to get started with lovemoney.com MoneyTrack.
For your protection you may be asked to sign in again. Once you've signed-in you'll find yourself on your dashboard.
1. Adding your first account
Once you're signed-in your first step is to add an account, here's how to go about it:
-
Click 'add an account.'
- Select whether your account is a bank account or a credit card.
- Enter the name of your bank, or part of the name and hit 'Search.' If your bank is not UK-based, select to 'Search all providers.'
- Select your provider and click 'Next.'
- Enter the security details you use for this bank when you use their MoneyTrack and click 'Add this account.'
The MoneyTrack service immediately starts downloading your transactions and balances. In the meantime repeat the above steps to add more bank accounts and credit cards.
Troubleshooting
- If you experience any errors you may want to click 'edit and delete accounts' to re-enter your bank security details as it's easy to make mistakes.
-
Downloading of transactions can take a few minutes the first time around – the system should tell you when the process is complete – if not, click 'Refresh' to get the latest data.
2. Viewing and categorising your transactions
Once you've added all the accounts you want, you can click 'Transactions' to view and categorise your individual transactions.
lovemoney.com MoneyTrack automatically categorises transactions it recognises. Others may remain as marked 'Uncategorised.' The number of uncategorised transactions is shown above the transaction table on the 'Transactions' page.
To categorise a transaction, simply:
-
Find the transaction you want to categorise.
- In the table row for that transaction click the category name on the right hand side.
-
A select list will appear - select the new category from the list.
- If you want a particular transaction to always be categorised as a specific category - check the 'Apply to all with this description' checkbox before you select a new category from the list.
Some ideas for categorisation
- Find your weekly or monthly paycheck and categorise as 'Salary' - don't forget to check the 'Apply to all' checkbox to ensure the transaction is recognised as your salary in future months.
- Find transfers between bank accounts and categorise them as 'Transfers' - this ensures your income and expenditure figures read correctly on your dashboard.
- Find and categorise all your car or home costs - that way you can see just how your monthly outgoings are spent.
3. Filtering, updating and day-to-day use
At this point, your setup is finished - here are some other tips for things you can do with the lovemoney.com MoneyTrack service:
-
View transactions from specific accounts only by unchecking the checkbox next to an account's name to hide transactions from this account.
-
View transactions for a specific category by selecting the category from the 'Filter by category' dropdown or by clicking the relevant pie slice on the dashboard category breakdown pie chart.
The lovemoney.com MoneyTrack service keeps your transactions up-to-date so they are available as soon as you sign in next time.
