What's the weirdest thing you've done to make money?
Following on from the stingiest money saving tips, I'm hoping to write an article on wacky ways to make money for the summer. Any ideas?

My son used to boost his pocket money on a campsite in France by collecting evrything from around the site that had a deposit on it and returned them to the camp shop.
Only 5 at the time so he was a budding entrepreneur then. It was a friendly, safe site with security and we didn't know about it. We thought he was with friends in another part of the site.
But that was 25 years ago when you didn't need to keep an eye on them 24/7.

I used to do a data entry job that consisted of typing the contents pages of obscure scientific journals into a Word document - I'm never sure why they didn't just use OCR. I think the rate of pay was about 10p an entry - I vaguely remember making pretty good money which means I must have done an awful lot of typing and deciphering such names as Menshagin and Fukuman.

I worked -- for two evenings only -- as a telemarketer for a fabric shop. I was to ring up people with memberships to the fabric club (!) and inform them of a coming sale. NO ONE wanted to know about this sale, which really begs the question as to why they had store membership in the first place. It was a disheartening introduction to the working world.

My methods of making money haven't been particularly weird, but some of them have had awful uniforms.
One of the worst was when I used to work at a pizza outlet and had to wear a red, blue, green and yellow striped shirt with matching sun visor.
Another classic was when I worked on the deli at Tesco and had a red and white white mid-calf length spotted dress with paper hat.

All of mine where whilst I was at school from about 8 to 14...
Normal job as a door to door catalogue salesman/order taker/etc, but got it from some weird bloke driving around looking for people to do it... all very suspect looking back at it now. Did it once then quit as nobody had actually signed up to have the catalouge and were all quite rude to me asking for them back.
With the advent of the 16-bit home video game consoles and better background music (one step up from bleep-bloop) a friend and I would record the music, remix a bunch of them (badly) and make tapes of the result to sell to people at school. I think we sold about 3 tapes after putting in about 50 hours of work and needing about £150 worth of kit, so we ended up earning about (minus) £2.95 an hour! :)
I also used to collect all the little ali bottle tops to try and sell to the local scrap metal man - after collecting a rather large ball of them for several weeks, I got 50p, and I think that was just because the guy took pity on me.
My uncle had a vast collection of comics he would give them to me after he was finished with them. After I was finished with them I would "rent" them to friends at 5p a day and 10p to join the club - this one actually worked quite well and I made about 20p a week.
I wrote a computer game and sold a few copies - this one seemed pretty good until I realised I'd spent about 200 hours making it and only made £9 off it - a lot of people just copied it and I learnt the harsh lesson of copyright theft!
The best I manged was when I wrote a bit of software to make those magic eye / 3D stereo scopic pictures. This time I learnt my lesson and took orders for pictures instead of selling the software I sold the pictures. The software took about 10 hours to make and about an hour for each picture I made. I made about £100 from the picture orders. If the internet had been around, I think I'd have made more from that one!

When I was a student I managed to do the guided tours to prospective students of my uni. I earnt £30 for the hour and a half it took which included lunch (for free)! Infact that was such a good money spinner I at least owe them this: University of Surrey IS BRILLIANT!
I also managed some focus groups too (£20 for 30mins). What a great uni.

I am a staff member but I am going to trump all of you. My folks own a packaging company. When I was about 12 I spent a summer pulling name tapes out of cabbage nets that were made with the wrong wording printed on them, for £1 for a bundle of 50.
The nets, minus incorrect name tapes, then became saleable again - and my hands became sandpapery and bled somewhat.
If your parents offer you an opportunity to make a few quid in the holidays, do NOT assume you'll be offered a directorship.
