I had cancer 6 years ago and still find it totally impossible to get life insurance even excluding cancer. I have been clear since my operation.

    That is awful.

I will ask one of our writers to look into this to see if we can get an answer for you. You're right, there must be lots of others in the same boat...

    Hi Graeme

Your right! not all companies will give you life cover if you have a previous cancer condition.

In most cases they will say it is down to the underwritting as the insurance companies have to provide cover when and where they can. They will then either decline or load the premiums higher!

If you would like us to have a shop around for you, we will need some more information so we can eliminate insurance companies that will not proceed with an application.

You can email me on tim.wilson@foolfinance.co.uk or give me a call on 0800 804 8045.

    Regards

    Hi Graeme,

Our new writer John Fitzsimmons has just published an article called Protect your family from cancer, which looks at the issue in detail. There is also a mention of the legal protection that is in place to ensure cancer sufferers and survivors have access to protection products.

The article was just published this morning, so no comments yet, but it might be worth having a read and keeping an eye on any discussion that develops.

Your situation really gets my hackles up, it's just not right. I hope between TheWelshman's help, John's article, and the rest of the lovemoney.com community, you find the information and cover you need.

Good luck to you -- and please report back. As Donna says, there are probably a lot of other people in the same situation.
