I have a full time permanent job but have decided to start up a separate small side business through self employment. I have registered as a sole trader with HMRC. Do I need to let my employer know that I have another job (even though it does not affect my main job)? Can they find out from the tax office that I have this second job? I would really like to keep it to myself.
