Planning (Possible Corruption)

Hi. I live in a quiet road in Newport, Shropshire.

Three neighbours (led by one in particular) have agreed to sell their gardens to Taylor Wimpey who intend to build 34 dwellings. This land is 'Wetland' and adjacent to an SSSI. They have to demolish one of the houses to gain access to the site and this house is a registered bat roost. Despite over 170 objections and professional reports regarding the effect on the water table AND the fact that each house will have to be 'Piled' (approx 6 miles worth of piling must go in) The case worker for the Planning dept has passed this development with no conditions. The owner of the house to be demolished has stated too at least two people (the vendor of the property they are buying and their Estate Agent) that ' there will be no problem with the plans passing as I have a friend in the planning dept and it will pass with no objections.' That was stated over two weeks ago and on SUNDAY the planing report went on the council portal stating it has passed with no objections. The person who compiled the report has now gone sick. We believe that there may be a case of malpractice at least and a strong possibility of corruption. Is there anything we can do within this short time?

If the decision has been formally ratified by the council there is nothing that can be done. Check with your local councillors.

Planning is very undemocratic. There can be appeals by developers refused permission but not by objectors,

If you have any firm evidence of malpractice, you can go to the Local Government Ombudsman.
