Can I pay in a post dated cheque without incurring any charges?

I have received a cheque for work done which the sender has accidently dated 28/7 instead of 28/6.

Will the bank allow me to pay this cheque into my account without returning it (and incurring costs)?

It will take too long to return the cheque back to th sender and get him to reissue a new one. Please advise?

Your bank would be likely to spot it and reject it. If they don't, the drawer's bank would be likely to reject it. neither would be 100% likely, but the combination would be too high to risk it.

Your bank might spot it at the counter and reject it there and then and return it without any cost to you, but any further down the line would incur a fee.

They would probably tell you that you can't bank it before the date listed, but that is not strictly true. The date shown is technically the earliest date that it should clear the drawer's account.
