Redundant since Dec - when will I get P60

Since being made redundant in Dec 2011 I have not been employed since (although I have now been offered a job to start in 2 weeks).

I have to do a tax return and the tax credit people are chasing me for an update but nobody has sent me a P60 and I have no idea who is supposed to send it to me and therefore who to chase. I have looked on the HMRC web site and even posted this question on there (it has not been answered). I would be better off asking the local zoo as asking the job centre as they look at me blankly.

Can anyone tell me when I should have received it (it is now June) and who should I chase for it.

Thank you.

You should have got a p45 when you left your last employer. If you were not working on 5/4/12 you will not get a p60.

The p45 will enable you to update hmrc

Thanks for your answer. I was told by the job centre I will get a P60 as the job seeker allowance payments are also classed as income for tax purposes. I therefore need the P60 for the total tax-year income.

:( I did get a P45 in December which I have kept but everything gets so confusing. My accountant also was under the impression i would get a P60 from HMRC.

    confusing!

Was any tax deducted from your JSA? If not, then you should be able to add up the payments and add them to your P45.

If tax was deducted then you should have a P60.

Benefit levels are normally below the tax threshold so tax certificates are not normally needed.

State pensions are also taxable but they get any other pension payers to do the tax deduction for them and we don't get a statement at the end of the year.

    Hi Mike.

Thanks for your reply. I don't know if JSA was/is taxed - I got the basic JSA (£155 per fortnight) I have no idea if tax was deducted as I get no paperwork just a pay in amount in my bank.

    thanks

If £155 per 2 weeks is basic JSA and that is what goes into the bank, then you cant be paying tax on it can you?

Add it up as a gross payment and put it in the tax return . Put the p45 figures in too.

Add in any interest and dividends. Add in anything else you get that is taxable and your return is done

If your original notification of benefit did not mention tax then it is very unlikely that any is being deducted. You would therefore be unlikely to receive a tax statement.

The JSA and the previous pay would go on different sections of a tax return anyway.
