Do mortgage lenders ask questions that are too personal?
According to a story in the Times this weekend, when assessing a prospective borrower's application, Northern Rock asks what they spend on things like haircuts or pets. Is it a good thing that lenders are taking such a detailed approach to working out whether we can afford the mortgage, or are the questions getting a little too personal?
