Three years ago we bought a Panasonic Vierra TV for £799.99 on sale full price £999.99. It was my first TV purchase as an adult so I didn't know about it or warranty and guaranties. So when the store assistant forced us to buy one tv insurance, we were told that we'll get like for like or same amount of TV. With small child at home we thought it was good to buy it. So, we bought the insurance for £288 (expensive) for 3years. Now on the third year or tv had a few scratches on it so we decided to call or insrance. They collected the tv but said they cant repair it because it'll cost more then £300, so they sent us £400 voucher saying that we'll have to buy another tv. but we are feeling cheated and helpless, is there anything else we can do ??

TV's have been improving rapidly. They have been getting bigger and with more features such as 3D.

Like for like means that they would provide you with the equivalent features to your existing model. You don't say what that is but I wouldn't be surprised if a model with features similar to yours only cost £400 today.

If you find that something similar would cost more than the £400 offered then complain to them with proof of the extra cost. If they then don't agree, go to the Ombudsman.

If you find that you can get the equivalent to your old model for £400 then you have the opportunity to trade up or replace as you wish.

For the price that you paid originally, you can probably buy at TV with a bigger screen, 3D, LED, etc.

Please also bear in mind that you have a voucher for £400 in return for a premium of £288. Most lose out.

    Mike
