If i add my GF as a extra cardholder will it affect my credit score? Also how does it affect liability?

I Have signed up for the capital 1 cash back card. To maximise the amount of cash back i am thinking of adding my girlfriend (as good as a wife, we have a house and child together).

She has worse credit than myself as she has a satisfied CCJ etc. If i get a extra card for her would my credit score be reduced to her level?

Also would the liability be the same as a joint bank account?

If you have a mortgage together, you are already financially associated. Credit cards are not the same as bank accounts. Joint bank accounts are dual ownership but credit cards have a primary cardholder fully responsible for everything and a secondary cardholder who is not.

You obviously trust her not to overspend on your account so you may as well go ahead with the idea. It may well help her to improve her credit rating. Any misdemeanours such as CCJs, missed payments and exceeding overdraft limits stay on record for 6 years. If you can help her not to have any further problems, her rating will gradually improve and it will help yours as well.

Thanks Mike. The mortgage is solely in my name with a declaration of trust between us.

I thought there was a primary cardholder but wasn't sure

    Thanks for your help again.
