Is the travel insurance Santander offer with their current accounts any good?

I am likely to be looking for travel insurance to California for two adults and one child for later this year.

I have been offered the opportunity to upgrade my Santander current account to either their 'Reward' or 'Premier' account, both of which charge a monthly fee.

As both of these current accounts include travel insurance I am considering transfering to one of them rather than taking out a single trip policy later in the year.

There are other benefits associated with the accounts which we may or may not use.

It is the travel insurance that I am interested in and wonder if anyone has any views or opinions on what Santander are offering?

Look at the small print and see how it compares.

They save a lot of the cost of individual insurance by having a bulk policy that only some of the policyholders use.

If you just want it for the one trip it may not be worth switching just for that benefit. If you are likely to have other trips abroad then it probably is worth it.

Is it just for you or are you married/in a partnership, because a joint account would cover you both for just the one charge.

    Hi Mike

    Thanks for your reply.

The insurance would be for two adults and one child (all would be covered on the Santander policy) , we would hope to be away for about three weeks. Although this is likely to be the only trip we make during the year, it occurred to me that because of how far we were going and for how long, it may be a cheaper option to switch to one of these current accounts.

My concern is that insurance through a current account may not be as substantial as that purchased elsewhere and I do not want my family to be underinsured. I have compared what Santander are offering with other policies, but do not really know enough about travel insurance to know what levels we need to be covered for / at. Hence my rather general question about peoples views / opinions on what Santander are offering!
