Q&A

Answer a question

09 July 2011

I've recently returned from a holiday abroad, during which time I contracted a stomach infection which required a stay in hospital.

I was admitted on the morning I was due to fly home, which meant I missed my return flight. My medical insurance company got involved, rebooked me a flight home and I am in the process of claiming back the medical bills I incurred. My medical insurers are now asking for details of any private health insurance I have but I do not understand what relevance this is to them and why they want such details. Am I legally bound to disclose these details and why should any private health insurance have any bearing on a claim I am making specifically on my travel insurance for a situation which occurred abroad and for which, as far as I can see, they are solely responsible?
