Sheltered Accomodation

My dear old nan, 92 years young, recently had a fall and broke her ankle. Social Services are trying to push her into Care rather than allow her to stay at home and have a carer visit her there to get her up in the morning, and back to bed in the evening. Nan does not want to leave her home: a) because its the house she shared for 68 years with my dear departed grandad; and b) because aforementioned grandad would spin in his grave if he knew all his house and all his hard earned cash was going to go into the council's coffers! My question is about whether Sheltered accomodation is a viable option. I don't really know what it is, what it costs or anything. Can anyone advise me please?
