can i get equity release from propertys which i own outright to purchase more

i have been in the property market for some years now but have not been involved for about three years now. now that there are bargins available i would like to return to what i do best,developing,but only propertys at the lower end of the market,i would like to know if i could get equity release on various propertys to buy propertys that are in need of a "makeover", i have cash available to fund a project but not to buy, can you help?
