How do I get my unreasonable fees back?
Hi. I wonder if someone can help. I transferred my current account to Alliance & Leicester (Santander) in 2009 when they were offering the £100 bonus for transferring. I applied online and chose to use their direct debit transferring service, as they said they would match my previous overdraft limit if I did this, which was £1500 with Barclays. When the account was set up and I received the documentation I noticed that I had only been granted an overdraft limit of £100. I rang to query this and was told that I would have to send them a statement from my previous account, this was never stated before, but I did it anyway. I received a letter back which said that they could not accept the statement that I sent as it needed to show my account in credit, which seemed strange as I was sending it to apply for an overdraft. I am the kind of person who goes in and out of my overdraft frequently so a decent overdraft limit is essential for me. As a result of this I have been charged hundreds of pounds for going over my overdraft limit and fees for direct debits that have been paid while over my limit. I have written to Santander with no luck. What should I do to try and get all the money that I have paid in fees back?
