I heard a backpacker talking about a world prepaid card he tapped into his phone? didnt like to ask him what he meant!! Thankyou

824The first priority is to disable the receipt of calls/texts from UK. He would have to pay for the international leg of them.
If he is going to be in any one country for some time, getting a Pay as You Go sim card in the country concerned would probably be best.

16He needs to get searching on the net for the best deal, which will depend on where he's going and how much he's likely to be using the phone. There are lots of companies who sell SIM cards that offer cheaper calls from different countries. If he's staying in one country it may be cheaper to buy a PAYG sim when he gets there. I used to have an Irish Vodafone SIM that I paid 10 Euro for and got 10 Euro credit.
If he's just going to send the occasional text then his existing contract may be fine. It costs nothing to receive texts and may be as little as 10p to send them. He should, however, switch off his voicemail. If someone calls him but he doesn't answer he'll be charged for directing the call to whichever country he's in then charged for bringing it back to his voicemail.
If he only needs to phone home then an alternative is an international calling card that gives him cheap calls from public and hotel phones. Again, search on the net for the best deal fo the country he's going to.
