Should I sell now, as property values supposedly falling fast? /and forget any modest home improvements?

I have waited a long time to be in a postion to move. I do feel however that some modest improvements are still desirable, (I cannot not afford anything expensive,- savings ear-marked for pension back up,) My property has fallen in value by about 10 K apparently in the last 6 months, I find hard to believe. I really would like to bump it up a bit again before putting it on the market. At least to give it a better chance. I don't trust Estate Agent's opinions anymore. They just want a quick sale. I feel that it may still be worth freshening up with new wallpaper, new sink and new kitchen fronts, and possibly carpet, which is very worn. Would such modest improvements make any difference? Or should I just get it on the market quickly? Structurally the property is good, but it looks a bit tired (again)- I did it up a year ago, but certain things happened, and you would not recognise that now..
