Are all Internet Banks moving to use A Personal C&P Card Reader to add 'security' to on line banking. Any ideas of banks who will not use this?

Smile have sent me a Card Reader which you now have to use for any transactions through the web site. Frustratingly this means you have to have the unit with you when you want to process a transaction and if you wish to make 6 transactions you have to process the card 6 seperate times. I have resorted to using telephone banking as a less onerous method of doing my processing, and feel this is a bad technical solution to internet security.

often this is just the set up of the first payment to each unqiue destination though ... rather than the every payment to the same destination ?

even non-"internet" banks are using them for internet transactions.

Santander don't. They send you a text message with a code which you have to input for any debits.

Smile certainly do not use them for every transaction. I have had their reader, amongst others, for over a year or so, and have only had to use it a couple of times.

These card readers are a bug bear of mine. By using them the banks are abdicating responsibility for some of their security to the customer instead of making sure their own security is tight.

    First Direct don't use them.
