Some private collection companies are harrasing m,e about my old car tax not renewed although it was scrapped 2+ years ago, who do I call / report?

A mechanic from the garage I used to go gave my old car to a scrap yard 2-3 years ago and their details were filled on the DVLA document and sent off to the DVLA. Months later the DVLA sent me a letter requesting that I renew my tax disc for that car and I wrote to them and told them that it was already scrapped and that I had sent then the document. I enclosed the photocopy of the document after scanning it for myself. Now, two years after all that, 2-3 private collection agencies are harrasing me by phone and letters threatening me with legal action and exorbitant fees for fines for not renewing the tags. This is persisting despite my explaining to them, as well as writing to the DVLA again, that I no longer owned the vehicle and it had been scrapped long ago. Could someone please advice me on how I should proceed further?
