Is it a company pension scheme? If so, the contributions should be deducted from income before tax so you get your tax relief that way.

Hi there, thanks. It is a company pension scheme, however, as its a foreign scheme, im told that due to some double tax treaties or something to that extent, I cant claim the tax relief. If it was a UK pension, it wouldnt be an issue.

That seems strange to me as it would appear to be discriminatory.

Are there many UK employees? Could it be done under salary sacrifice instead? That would cut NI conts as well.

The simplest answer is a question : is the pension scheme approved under HMRC rules? Unfortunately, I suspect not (which means no tax relief) ...

By salary sacrifice, you wouldn't be paying any contributions. The employer would. There would then be no need to obtain tax relief.

thanks for that. Will look into the salary sacrifice option and see what it brings up.
