I bought a pS3 on an Argos Store Card.....the item is faulty...should the details still be on the card to proove my purchase?

I dont have a statement to prove my purchases during 2007,and i found out from consumer direct you can use bank statements as proof of purchase I went into store for a refund after obtaining bank statements/Fault report for our PS3 and letter from head office stateing this was the required information The manager used the card to gain my info, and turns out my account details have been lost because they have changed their system,he then had to call someone in another department who then said my bank statement werent enough to prove my purchase how long should a company keep your records for?.......is it 5 - 7 years? And should i report this to OFT,as it doent sound right a big company like argos should lose all my account purchase details
