Calling all married couples - are good wedding photographs worth paying hundreds of pounds for? Is this something you shouldn't skimp and save on?

OK, here's my dilemma. I've found a really good wedding photographer for my wedding. Only problem is, he charges £500 for four hours. We only want 2 hours, but he's refusing to budge on the price. I've looked at literally 50 different sites and any photographer that takes good photos of people not posing, just happy, seems to charge about that and usually more. I've found lots of photographers who will charge less, or even nothing (to build up experience), but their work doesn't seem anywhere near as good. So I'm wondering what to do? Is this something we should be prepared to splash out on, because it's a mistake to scrimp and save? Or is there anyone out there who is good but not charging so much? Let me know!
