Is your credit score affected by moving?

I have been in my rented home for 21 years but have decided to move bang next door as it has been refurbished, which is also a rent job!! However I am concerned that my credit score will drop during the move or afterwards as I have heard of this happening!! Any help would be appreciated on this matter.

In theory, it shouldn't. In practice, there is a time lag. To minimise this, contact your local Electoral Registration Officer so that your move is recorded as soon as possible.

Then get your credit report and check if there are any names associated with the new property from way back.  If there are, contact the credit reference agencies to get them removed.

After that you should be as normal.

If you move house a lot within a relatively short period of time, this can reduce your credit score as it appears you may be moving to try and escape previous debtors, or may be pursued by debtors from your previous addresses. But a one off move generally doesn't have any impact, provided you take the steps Mike has recommended.

    Good points made.

Not sure of the timing of your move, but it's worth mentioning that councils generally don't bother updating any electoral roll data between August and October - this being the period when the annual re-registration occurs.
