272It's not a scam, but your free photo books will have a 4 page printed advert in them from their 'partner' companies. They will also print your address on the back cover, to save them the cost of an envelope. You may also get advertising e-mails and post from their partner companies. You can opt out of this, but it may take some effort depending on who the partner is. And the application you use to upload the photos also features various adverts. Basically, instead of charging you for the photo book, they make their money from the adverts they include with it and from sharing your data with their partners.
If you don't mind getting the adverts in the books (which the company say are easy to remove), the additional advertising and having your address on the back of the photo book, then go for it. Just don't get sucked in by the adverts and waste your savings buying something you don't need!

272I haven't used them, but their business models is a standard one. It's like free newspapers - they give them away free because they have adverts in them, so the advertisers pay for it and not you. But the only reason the advertisers pay for it is because they know that some people will respond to the adverts and make them money.
So, for example, you might get a free photo book and it comes with an advert for a widescreen TV for £500. If you buy the TV, the advertiser will make much more money from you than the cost of making the photo book. Advertisers know that, out of every hundred people who see an advert a certain proportion will respond to it and buy the product, and that proportion will cover the costs of creating the advert (and the photo book in this case). Just make sure that if you buy something that's advertised you do actually need it, otherwise your free photo book will end up costing you a lot!
