The internet is a weird yet wonderful place...

Long time reader, first time poster - so for my first Q+A I’m asking how do you know so much about finance, is it through wisdom years of experience? A lot of our members are interested in mainly one thing – finance and there’s no denying that you know how to give advice!

I’m relatively new here without a lot of experience in finance (apart from raking up a debt!)

Do you have favourite financial advice blogs or do some of you even write your own blogs?

I’ve always been interested and fascinated by the blogsphere – would love to read your articles!

:)

I have never seen the attraction in blogging - it mostly seems to

attract people who like the sound of their own voices. I prefer chat

boards where there is a real sense of community. Don't just aim to read

other people's stuff - get involved!

    Amongst my favourites are:

    -

    for debt matters

    http://boards.fool.co.uk/dealing-with-debt-50079.aspx?mid=11867009

    -

    for high yield investing

    http://boards.fool.co.uk/high-yield-hyp-practical-51676.aspx?mid=11857384

    -

a board where everyone posts lists of what they would like to achieve

in the next month (which vary from Phone my Mum through Eat 3 new kinds

of cheese to Complete on my House and Make decision about my pension)

    http://boards.fool.co.uk/your-tomorrow-starts-today-51642.aspx?mid=11867100

    -

    for macro economic chat

    http://boards.fool.co.uk/your-tomorrow-starts-today-51642.aspx?mid=11867100

    -

    for property market chat

    http://boards.fool.co.uk/property-markets-and-trends-51402.aspx?mid=11867017

    -

for oil and gas investing http://www.stockopedia.co.uk/forum/topic/7554

    -

this is a general news aggregator http://www.stockopedia.co.uk/news

    And

then there are other, non-finance stuff, such as the chat board in my

    online Bridge Club :)

I personally don't write my own blog but have come across some very interesting ones, must say. I would definitely class myself as more of a reader than a poster (as my first Q+A demonstrates).

Thank you for sharing this Manzilla, hadn't heard of stockopedia - so will definitely be having a gander!

I keep toying with the idea of writing my own blog, but never have the time. What with being a full time self employed writer, dad and husband (not necessarily in that order), I've always got something more important to do. I also agree with manzanilla - it's more for people who just want to feel important about themselves, another manifestation of our 'have your say' society. The only appeal to me is that you can potentially make quite a decent income from advertising on your blog, but I don't think it would significantly supplement my existing income. I'm a greedy b*****d like that ;) If I start a blog I'll let you know, and you can click on all my ads...

Finance wise, I've been interested in it since I was at university, and have just built up my knowledge since then. Also, since my writing is economics and business based, it involves a lot of research, so I'm pretty handy at finding what I need on Google. So I don't really have a favourite site for financial advice - when I need advice I find a number of sites and decide which advice works best for me. But the boards at fool.co.uk are a great place to start if you are trying to build up your general financial education level.

I have always thought that blogs are for exhibitionists.

I find Q&A is a way of passing on my experiences now that I'm retired. If it helps someone to avoid mistakes then that is a success.

The pricipal contributors here seem to be from a variety of backgrounds and cover different aspects of questions. Hopefully, between us, we cover it all.

I only wish Google and facilities like Q&A had been around when I was younger.

    Thank you for sharing!

@Swarbs, what publications do you write (if you don't mind me asking)?

@MikeGG1 you most definitely cover all the topics between you all!

And yes, google (and wikipedia) are absolutely fantastic!

As already mentioned the Motley fool is good, Seeking Alpha is worth checking, just Google for them and you'll find some on Blogger just look for tags to do with Finance. Wordpress is also a good place for bloggers. You can check my blog on economics, not finance particularly, but gives an insight into economics: http://Mike10613-hardware.blogspot.com and you can even have a go yourself at blogging. One guy blogged about arguing with his wife and ended up with a £250,000 writing contract.
