it was with my phone company 18months ago, (no idea where the documents are now to be honest, i was asking more out of curiosity) but cancelled the insurance as soon as they said they wouldnt replace the phone!

this time when i have renewed my contract - i have not taken out phone insurance with the network provider! i am putting it on my house insurance!

They must have explained to you why they would not replace the phone?

It really isn't possible for us to second-guess what has happenened. We need to know the reason/excuse for not replacing the phone. And you need to compare that to the T&Cs of the insurance.

Phone insurance is usually a rip-off. That doesn't mean that you can claim the money back :(

their excuse was i hadnt reported the fault within a specific time - when in actual fact i had & made several calls to them about it!

i didnt think i would be able to claim that insurance money back - it was just out of curiosity, with all the ppi claims etc..

i would probably have to find all the documentation (which in my bermuda triangle of a house, would be near impossible haha!)

    thanks for your help anyway

Then you should have queried their decision, saying this. And if you were still not satisfied after going threough the company's complaints process, then you could go to the insurance ombudsman.

If you can't find the documentation, you can ask them to supply you with another copy.

I agree with manzanilla - make a formal complaint and then contact the Insurance Ombudsman. The only point of the insurance is to replace the phone if it breaks or is lost - if they haven't done that then you need to get your complaining hat on and kick the s**t out of them! Don't accept their excuses - most phone companies deliberately make the claims process difficult to reduce the amount they have to pay out. If in doubt, put the complaint in writing, contact the ombudsman and they will sort it all out for you.
