has anyone had any success with companies such as Consumer Credit Services?

I signed up today but immediately had my doubts as I have never taken PPI out on any loans/credit cards.

do you mean this firm: http://www.freeindex.co.uk/profile%28consumer-credit-services%29_225034.htm ?

If you have never taken out PPI they can't reclaim it for you. (And even if you had, you could have reclaimed it yourself, not used a firm like this.)

Have they offered to help you get loans etc written of because of errors in the documentation? There are a lot of these companies aroud at the moment, and there don't seem to be any successes reported in court cases - and that's not becase all the companies ar setting claims out of court!

See this for one case which did get to court: basil rankine case

Good fun if you like legal stuff - it's rare for a judge to be quite so rude about an applicant.

The proof that they aren't making any money from winning cases is that if they were, they would offer to do this on a 'no win, no fee' - but because they aren't winning, they want money from you up front. They may say you can get the money back if your case is unsuccessfu, but that could take years and in the mean time the have your money - and who knows if they will be around in a couple of years to refund it?

If you have just signed up, phone up and try to cancel. What have you signed - is there a cooling off period? Even if there isn't, you may be able to pull out if you try quick enough.

And if you have debts you need help with, why not get some proper advice, not chase after mirages... try this bulletin board: http://boards.fool.co.uk/dealing-with-debt-50079.aspx?mid=11861308

In general, never pay an up front fee to companies like this. They will do anything to get your money and heep hold of it. Like manzanilla says, if they were so sure they were going to win lots of money on your behalf, why would they need a deposit in the first place?

These firms have absolutely no conscience. They prey on the most vulnerable members of society with very little chance of success.

I suppose the only reason that they haven't yet been banned is that there is a very small possibility that they could win a case.

Thanks -I thought as much and cancelled it straight away, even with all their proof it still felt a bit suspect. To be fair, they were quick to cancel it no questions aksed.

I'm fortuntate enough to have my finance in a good state, so wasnt as gulliable as I may have been if thigns were different.

    Thanks for your responses.

i have used consumer credit counselling services years ago to help me get out of debt. they sent me their pack, never charged me a penny & i worked it all out myself!

i know this isnt related to your case - but consumer credit counselling services are a legitimate company!

They are. To be fair I phoned and canceeld immediately after and the said they would cancel.

2 Days later i was £200 lighter and their packs arrived, I called and they said there had been an error and they would said me a cheque.

Not received anythign yet - they may be legit but I felt such an idiot, and as though I had been scammed. No one to blame really but myself!
