Can I apply for Housing Benefit for a property that I have been living in for past 3 years?

I had been provided with free accommodation by my employer for last 3 years. But now I have been told that the property I am living in has been sold and that I would either need to pay market rent to the new landlord or find alternative accommodation (at my own expense). My annual salary is £10,000 and I have a wife and 2 children. I would have great difficulty in finding suitable accommodation for less than £800 per month (most of my salary!!). Note: My employment is still to continue and the accommodation provided was not part of my employment contract but simply a favour by my employer while the property was available. What options are available to me?
