What benefits can be claimed if sacked ?

If someone is sacked from a job rather than being made redundant ... are they able to claim any benefits at all ... and for how long is this the case ? I realize that all mortgage/payment/income insurance is invalidated by being sacked. I have a retired family member who has had half of their property willed to a third party by their now dead partner ... that third party has since obtained a mortgage on the house to improve it ... presumably jointly ... although my family member didn't realize this and won't speak to a solicitor ... but the deeds I've found online state it is jointly owned and mortgaged. This third party has now been sacked and I'm now greatly concerned for my family member ... I'm encouraging them to wake up and seek help. I suspect it will be along time before this third party gets another job ... so trying to save my family member from losing property. Third party is married with children and all of them are Kenyan ... third party is a British citizen ... all living together in the property along with my family member ... if this might affect benefits.
