How to get your hands on a weird currency?

I'm going to The Gambia in a month and can't find Dalasi on Travelex... Without travelex I'm lost! I found a tourist board website saying not to worry since there are many ATMs. "Phew!" I thought. That is until I continued reading as it explained where both(!) ATMs are and which time of the week is best to attempt to use the Visa only and frequently out of order machines. Has anyone had experience with obtaining elusive currency? Or even this particular one? Advice?
