4When I was looking tomove I phoned up AOL and told them I wanted to cancel and they offered me a better deal than the one I am on.
Try that - otherwise somethign like broadband choices is a really good place to start.

Being a net geek :( I used this site quite a lot back in the day to find out why my connection was slowing down etc. Stick your number in and it will tell you all the best deals, check out the forums as well if theres any problems on the broadband service you think of going for.

19If it's cost you are interested in then there are lots of comparison engines available but if speed/quality is also of interest then I'd first check which exchange you are on via http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php and check to see which providers actually have a presence in your exchange rather than just reselling & rebadging bt broadband.
The forums that fsk mentions above are useful as well once you've got to a shortlist.
I ended going for o2 which I applied for via quidco to get a cashback.

3depends if you just want broadband web access, or the whole phone/web/tv package deal
if you are getting/have a plain old BT line in and just need an ISP to provide web access, Zen Internet always do very well in the polls and awards for that particular industry (and were my personal choice until I moved and they were no longer an option)
for the whole phone/web/tv package, Tiscali are doing pretty well these days after purchasing Home Choice a couple of years ago. as well as getting free weekend calls to all destinations, they record loads of broadcast tv that you can play back on demand and my download speed is consitatly around the 8mbit/s mark (which is fantastic seeing as I only pay for 2mbit/s !??)
you really do need to look out for the small print about acceptable useage policy though if you are a heavy downloader, or you can end up with a huge bill at the end of each month that you go over what they deem to be a *reasonable* amount !!

416I use TalkTalk and get "free" broadband. I get a good download speed since I optimized the TCP and upload is around 800K which is good for ADSL over a telephone line. I also get free calls in the UK to geographical numbers with area codes starting in 01 or 02. I can also phone any country in the EU for up to 60 minutes free, New Zealand and Australia too. North America and Canada is even better on Talk 3 International. I can phone landline or mobiles in North America for up to an hour free. Other TalkTalk customers I can phone for up to 3 hours for free. I use the webspace and that generates a little income to offset the cost. It cost around £23 this month but I made a few 0845 calls and got stuck on voice mail systems. Usually it's around £22. The technical support is fairly useless. I have a friend now waiting for the webspace to be sorted out and I have tested it. It just doesn't work and server issues are a problem. If I check my email accounts on their server it makes no sense - but they work OK on POP3 and I have Gmail and Yahoo accounts as well. For the money it's a good deal and is improving.
