Statutory Sick Pay withheld by employer
My brother in law was suspended by his work about three months ago, initially on full pay but they later decided not to pay him anything as he had submitted a medical certificate for work related stress, primarily brought on by the suspension. For the last two pay periods he has received no money at all, including the SSP which he is surely enitled to. His pay slips show his pay at £0, SSP at £335 (or thereabouts, I don't have the exact figures to hand) but it then shows tax at the exact same amount as his SSP meaning they give him nothing. Surely this can't be right? He is getting nowhere with the company and doesn't know where to turn next. Can anyone give any pointers as to how he should deal with this? He's lucky that his mother is able to give him money just now but that can't go on forever. If it makes any difference, he lives in Scotland. Thanks in advance har
